About the
Irish Cardiac Society
Established in 1949 the Irish Cardiac Society is the professional society in Ireland for those whose primary interest is in the practice of Cardiology, Cardiovascular Surgery and Cardiovascular Research.
A 32 county body, the society has grown and developed over 7 decades, keeping apace with the tremendous advancements which have taken place within the profession of cardiology. The objectives of the society set out in 1949 remain as relevant today as they were upon their introduction 75 years ago.
In 2023 the Irish Cardiac Society became a registered charity and company limited by guarantee. CHY: 23065 CRO: 708262 CRA: 20206568.
The founding directors of Irish Cardiac Society CLG are: Prof. James Crowley, Prof. Vincent Maher and Prof. Carl Vaughan.
To further the study of Cardiovascular diseases of various means and to enable those most interested in cardiology to pool their experience.
To give increased facility to the teaching of cardiovascular diseases to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
To enable contact to be made with similar societies in other countries.
Remaining focused on supporting its members, nurturing the next generation of cardiologists and creating beneficial links with colleagues and similar societies and associations throughout the world, has contributed to the society becoming a vibrant, dynamic and respected entity of which members can be very proud.
The ICS historical booklet produced in 2019 to mark the society’s 70th year, recognises some of the key developments within Cardiology in Ireland 1949 – 2019 and highlights how Irish Cardiac Society members have been at the forefront of the progression and advancement of the profession both in Ireland and abroad.
