European Society of Cardiology (ESC)
The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) is a volunteer-led, not-for-profit medical society and the Irish Cardiac Society is one of 57 national cardiac societies from around the world who make up the ESC. ESC members and decision-makers are scientists, clinicians, nurses and allied health professionals working in all fields of cardiology.
This unique network provides us with the opportunity to input into initiatives aimed at both understanding the impact of cardiovascular disease across Europe and contributing to its reduction. All ICS members are automatic members of the ESC.
The ESC Core Curriculum for the Cardiologist lists the knowledge, skills and attitudes that are expected to have been attained by the end of training and delineates what level of proficiency is expected in practical skills.
Training days are held in co-ordination with the Irish Board for Training in Cardiovascular Medicine and the Irish Cardiac Society with the Irish trainee representative group, the Cardiologists of Tomorrow.
The Irish Cardiac Society is linked with the European Society of Cardiology, which provides educational resources to European trainees through its online e learning platform, e-courses, galleries, guideline documents and congresses. The ESC also offers funding and grants to support training opportunities in other EU countries, through clinical fellowships, observorships or post-graduate courses through the European Heart Academy.
