Brian Maurer Young Investigator Award (BMYIA)
The Brian Maurer Young Investigator Award, (BMYIA) is aimed at promising young investigators, to encourage and promote quality and original research in Cardiology. The award is named in honour of the late Dr. Brian Maurer who was President of the Irish Cardiac Society from 1988 to 1990 and who, throughout his career, was a strong advocate for research and very supportive to all young cardiologists as they embarked on their careers.
Entries for the BMYIA are accepted through the abstract submission process with four finalists shortlisted to present their work as part of the annual meeting scientific programme. The winner is awarded €5,000 and the BMYIA commemorative medal.

Those wishing to be considered for the young investigator must meet the following criteria:
- ZBe currently in cardiology (or related) training or within 3 years of attaining an attending / consultant post
- ZBe the first author & have carried out the bulk of the work being submitted
- ZProvide background, a hypothesis, a methods, results and conclusions
- ZSubmitted work must be completed
- ZSubmitted work must not be a case report or an audit
